Our workshop the "Sumi Art Party"
- 26 Dec, 2019
Our workshop, the "Sumi Art Party" at the "Library for Children's Transforming" on Dec 22, 2019, at Kitanaka Brick in Yokohama, was a success. Many little artists were emergence one after another, and it ended up like a battlefield of artists' expression rather than a party. Super satisfied.
What we wanted to do was to make sure that everyone was an artist by using Sumi art. Also, we wanted to have both children and adults experience the abstraction, furthermore, thinking and shaping their own idea from 0.
First, find a kanji character or a hiragana letter for the impression of their favorite book. Then write it ordinary by brush like as school Shodo. Next, break down it freely. From abstract to character, from character to abstract again. Large swing width. In less than 30 minutes.
That's precisely what we can do with Shodo. Everyone had done Shodo at school, and some were not good at writing, or some were good at writing. It's a huge fun of breaking each stereotype of "calligraphy"! A child who was not good at kanji began to enjoy writing kanji with his mother. A child who wrote a beautiful character of the square script of Shodo was breaking down to abstraction.
When the limit goes out, everyone became an artist. A 3-year-old child became like Taro Okamoto completely. People change in minutes. We were excited to observe such amazing things one after another and to support them. Thanks, guys!!!
It was a very fantastic workshop, even for us. It was too interesting, and we want to continue.
